Teaching Philosophy Traditionally, the method used for the teaching of singing
has relied on a coveted body of knowledge passed down directly from teacher
to student, somewhat clouded in mystery. However, voice science research
in the last 100 years has clarified much of the principles behind good
singing. In my teaching I use imagery, modeling, physiological directives,
and scientific theory as the means to the end of better singing. I believe
that every student can become his/her own teacher, if given the right
diagnostic skills. And, in order to synthesize the physiological, intellectual,
emotional, and aesthetic requirements of singing, mindful practice and
analysis are crucial.
